My Friend and Her Baby 親友と赤ちゃん

I had several reasons to fly to Oahu this weekend, so I took advantage of that occasion and saw one of my best friends from high school in Honolulu. Her name is Chika. She and I went to the same high school in Kochi, and during those years, we spent so many hours together, probably more than we did with our own families. Some of you might recognize her from past of my past blog entries (like this one - Chika's Wedding). Yes, congratulations to her - she gave birth to a beautiful boy 6 months ago. Isn't he a gem?

今週末は色々な理由でオアフへ行くことになったので、その機会にあやかり、ホノルルに住んでいる高校時代からの親友の一人である知佳に会ってきました。 高知西高校で新体操部に入っていた私たち。当時は、家族と過ごした時間よりも部活仲間と過ごした時間の方が長かったです。私のブログを長年読んでくださっている方は、お気づきかもしれませんが、彼女は過去のブログに何度か登場しております。（こちらのブログでは彼女の結婚式について書きました。）そうなんです。おめでたいことに、彼女は半年前に元気な男の子を出産しました。宝石のような赤ちゃんでしょ？ハルキくんといいますよ。

こちらの写真ではハルキの、きれいにポワウントされた足先が見られます。なぜか、硬い表面に足がつくと、足の裏をべったりつけるのではなく、つま先だけというこだわりがありました。

A smile like this - like the bright shining sun - melts any negativity and makes me feel everything would be all right.

この笑顔を見てください。
満面に輝く太陽のようなこの笑顔を見ていると、全てが大丈夫で、何かもやもやしていたものも、とけていくような気がします。

Quite many friends who are the same age as me have become mothers (or fathers). I am sometimes caught in surprise by this fact. Somehow, we all grew up to a point where it's natural for us to be parenting little beings. Wow. I am in awe of this life's process, and I think it's beautiful, and I am happy for all of my mommy and daddy friends!

同い年の友人の中で、既にお母さん（もしくはお父さん）になった友人が結構います。時々この事実にふっと驚きます。「あれ？いつの間に私たち、そんなに大きくなったの？」小さな赤ちゃんを腕に抱き、「自分の子」と言っても全然変じゃない年頃になったのですね。転んでひざをすりむいて泣いていた同級生が、立派に子供をあやしている様子を見たりすると、その人生の流れ自体に尊敬の念が生まれます。お母さんお父さんになった友達よ、本当におめでとう！

Some days ago, I wrote, "Okay I'm going to post one photo and one line every day."  Well, the reality for the past some days was that I did not have any time for blog. 

Every day goes by like a hurricane. Yet, I am granted with moments when I feel the connection with the mother nature, with myself, and with the source of life. I am grateful for this peace and enjoyment despite of a packed schedule. It is indeed blessing to be able to do what I love with 100% of my will and being.

先日「一日、一言絵日記（写真日記）をするぞ～」とブログに書いたものの、何だかんだと仕事でいそがしく、ブログまで手が回らない日々でした。

毎日が怒涛のように過ぎていっていますが、それでも自然との繋がりを、自分との繋がりを、大いなるものとの繋がりを感じさせてもらう瞬間に恵まれており、スケジュールがびっしりと詰まった毎日を、こんなにも大らかな気持ちで楽しく過ごせていることを、心からありがたく思っています。

自分がやりたいことを100%やらせてもらっていて、本当にありがたいです。

These are photos taken in this past July.
Ty was here on Maui for a week, and we had an opportunity to go up to one of our favorite spots on this earth, Haleakala. We love going up there whenever we can.

We are so appreciative to have such a beautiful and special spot in our lives.

"Our Mother Earth is so beautiful...." That's what I think over and over.

タイが一週間マウイに帰ってこれたので、その間にこの地球上で私たちの大好きな場所の一つである、ハレアカラに登ってきました。機会があればいつでも行くハレアカラ・・・。

こんなに美しくて特別な場所が私たちの人生にあるって有難い。

「地球って美しい。」って何度も思うのでした。

We had a wonderful turn out. The show sold out!!! Yay!

I enjoyed myself very much, and I was grateful to have a wonderful teacher, a friend to dance with, and live musicians to dance with!

先週金曜日にマウイで行われた、「ドゥバニ」のショーの写真をいくつか載せます。

売り切れ、会場満員の大成功のショーとなりました。よかったです。

素晴らしい恩師と、踊り子仲間と、プロのミュージシャンの方たち（Steve OdaとTy Burhoe）による生演奏と一緒に踊れることを、とても有難く思いました。

One Line & One Photo 一枚の写真と一言日記

I finally realized that it is impossible for me to write a full-length blog every day or every other day.  I actually have one more blog besides this one now that I am regularly updating. That one is for my classroom. I post pictures of my students and write about what we did, so that the students' families can see what they are doing at school. But it is not open for the general public. I set it as a private blog, so that the students' privacy would be protected.

Anyhow, with my new teaching job, other side jobs and dancing, I realized that it's easier for me to just post one photo and one line (or two lines) here in order to consistently update this blog. My parents are checking regularly to see what I am up to, but they have not been able to find out much since I have been neglecting this blog for so long!

Well, so from now on, it will be a pretty simple posting each time. When I have time, I will enjoy writing a full-length story.

私は、ようやく気付きました。
このブログを毎日、もしくはもっと定期的に書きたい場合、沢山書くことは無理だということに。実は、最近はこのブログ以外にもう一つのブログを定期的に更新しています。それは私の教えている子供たちの保護者の方用で、毎日学校でしたことを写真とともに書いています。保護者の方たちは、子供たちが学校でどんなことを学んでいるのか分かるので喜んでおられます。（このブログは子供たちのプライバシーを守るため、プライベートに設定されています。）

この新しい教師の仕事と、他の副職（サイドビジネス）と、踊りを真剣にしている毎日、時間が限られているため、このブログをもっと定期的に更新していきたい場合、一枚の写真と一行の文章でなら続くのではないかと思うのです。私の両親はかわいそうなことに、娘がどんなことをしているかと定期的にこのブログをチェックしているのですが、最近は全く更新されないため、何にも分からない状況でした。

ということで、これからはシンプルな内容になるかと思います。その代わり、もっと定期的に更新されるかと思われます。時間があるときは、沢山書きたいと思います。

Dhvani is the weaving together of the two of the most sacred arts of ancient India, music and dance. Odissi dance is an art form which uplifts the soul and celebrates the joy of existance through movement and grace. Classical Indian music guides us deep into our hearts and shares with us a vision of passion, spiritual vision and peace.

Sarala Dandekar is one of India's beautiful exponents of Odissi dance and together with classical Indian musician Ty Burhoe, have created a weaving of these living arts specifically for our Hawaiian community here on Maui. This evening will feeature maestro Indian musician Steve Oda (sarode) as well as Odissi dancers Akari Ueoka and Malati Carano.
