In last February, I signed up for a hike with the Siera Club. We hiked Pali Trail in Lahaian for a half day.
I got to see whales from the top!! Also, we came across with two Nene (Hawaiian Goose), too!
I hiked with people whom I had never met before. Everyone seemed to have a deep love for nature, and they were all wonderful people. It was nice to get to know a part of Maui I did not know before, and also it was nice for me to re-realize that I like a part of me that is curious and adventurous with the just-give-it-a-try attitude.

Recent Odissi Performance
I have been studying Odissi dance with Sarala Dandeker, my teacher here on Maui. Each year, my heart is mesmerized by the dance form more and more for its beauty and spiritual depth. Lately, I have been feeling a strong desire to study it seriously. I try to make time to practice out of my busy teaching job.
Some of you who read one of my past blog entries might have noticed that I was wearing the costume that Ty bought for me as a surprise gift. Yes, this was the first time I wore it on the stage.
By being surrounded by friends who came to watch and support me, by wearing the costume my love gave me, by dancing in my healthy body, and by dancing with my dancer friends, I felt that I was such a blessed being.
I want to send my deep gratitude to Sarala.

A Rendezvous in Chicago
In March (during my spring break), I flew to Chicago, IL to surprise Ty who was touring with his teacher in Chicago at that time. (For more details of his tour experiences, please read his diary.) Ty left in the middle of January, and in the middle of February, he was going to visit Maui for a week to spend time with each other, but his flight was canceled due to some mechanical failures, so we did not get to see each other, and his month long tour with his teacher began, and the next time we would see each other was be in May...
I thought to myself, "If he cannot come see me, I will come to him." I jumped on the Internet and found a reasonable ticket and flew myself there although I knew that I would get to see him for just a day and half...

It was wonderful to see him although we only got to spend time with each other for about a day and half. Sometimes, we just got to make actions, I guess.
Fresh Vegetables

On Saturday mornings, I go to a farmer's market held at the Eddie Tam Memorial Gym in Makawao. This is my new favorite activity on weekend. I can get fresh, yummy, organically grown vegetables at a reasonable price there, and I enjoy conversing with local farmers. I like to start a weekend this way.

My Tenth Year of Honolulu Festival 10
Dancing for the 16th Honolulu Festival in the middle of March was fun and memorable. The first time I danced for it was exact ten years ago; I was 17 years old. It was my first time to be in a foreign country. As I danced on the exact same place where I danced 10 years ago, I felt a deep emotion. It's quite difficult to explain what I felt, but I think that I felt a history of my own life for the past decade, and I tenderly looked back all those years that led me to be where I am today. I felt overwhelming appreciation for all the people whom I have met and all the opportunities I have been given for the past ten years. Because of them, I am here. I celebrated myself and my life as I danced the Izanai Yosakoi dance.

Right before the parade began at Kalakaua Avenue, during the break, I enjoyed being on top of a tree as usual... I was careful not to tear my costume.

Parts of My Cozy Home
This is my cozy home where Ty and I moved in last year (mid October).
It's been very cozy to live here.
I took some parts of the home I like.
I used an application called Hipstamatic for iPhone, and I used John S Lens. I like the kind of atmosphere these photos have.

A Smiley Person
Right after the workshop in Honolulu, Ty left for the mainland; he had to take care of business in Boulder, CO.
I missed my family very much. I always get a bit of homesick when I come back from Japan. It does not last long anymore, maybe about 4 days, but it used to be long when I was younger (like 19 years old). I also missed Ty very much. Then, I also missed the dancer friend who just passed away then. I felt lonely. I missed everyone...
It was 11:41 pm on January 18th, and I was about to go to bed. On that day, I did not have any appetite, so I didn't eat much, and finally, when I was ready to go to bed, I felt a bit hungry, so I had a banana with soy-nut butter.
I was sitting at the dining table alone with just a butter knife and a jar of soy-nut butter and an yellow banana, and outside was quiet and dark. All of sudden, I felt that everything was slower as if someone pushed a button to slower a movie. Although it was the same speed that my hand was using the butter knife to scoop up some soy-nut better out of its jar, it looked very slow, and I felt that I was understanding everything from the both micro and macro perspectives.
Then, I found this smiley person on a tip of a knife!! It was smiling at me, and instantly I felt a bit warmer inside. I felt as if God was smiling at me. Isn't this cute? The pieces of banana were at the perfect spot to make a smiley face.
Wow. I felt as if someone is watching over me, and I knew that I would be okay no matter what.

A Day Trip to Honolulu in the Mid January 1
In the mid January, Ty and I had a day trip to Honolulu as he had a tabla workshop and a "Musical Universe" workshop to teach. I just accompanied him. Ty wrote a bit about that on his diary.
Ty looked happy as he was sharing what he love with people. It made me happy, too.
For the first time, I stepped into the China Town. I walked around a bit when I had to move our rental car as it was approaching its expiration time.
After the workshops, we met Mr. and Mrs. Matsumoto who happened to be in Honolulu at that time. We discussed about a retreat we are planning to host in Kyoto in September. We met at a nice macrobiotic restaurant called Hale.
It is nice to accompany someone to peek into his world.
My Third Scarf
Wow, I did not update my blog even once during the past month!
Well, it was a busy, busy month.
There have been many things to write, but I won't be able to write them all at once, so I will write a bit by bit.
Although I was busy, I was knitting a scarf. I was trying to finish it before Ty's birthday, but I did not make it, so I sent it a week later. But that's okay. There was my heart knitted in, so that's okay. I learned to knit by watching this DVD, "The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting by Nici McNally." It is very well made.
This was my third scarf I have knitted.
Here is the first one.
Here is the second one.
I used the same yarn for the first one and the second one. The design is the same for the second one and the third one.
Someday, I would like to try to knit a sweater or vest or something a bit more bigger.

編み物は一年ほど前に「The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting by Nici McNally」という DVDを見て学びました。
